    FAME India Scheme Phase-II: Government sanctions 670 electric buses and 241 charging stations

    In a step towards eco-friendly transportation, the Government of India has sanctioned 670 Electric buses in 4 Indian states. The government has also sanctioned 241 charging stations in 7 Indian cities under the Phase-II of FAME India Scheme.

    In a step towards eco-friendly transportation, the Government of India has sanctioned 670 Electric buses in 4 Indian states. The government has also sanctioned 241 charging stations in 7 Indian cities under the Phase-II of FAME India Scheme. 

    Prakash Javadekar, the Minister of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, in a series of tweet, announced the sanction of 670 e-buses and 241 charging stations different Indian States under the FAME India Scheme. The scheme is introduced to carry forward Prime Minister Modi's vision of eco-friendly public transportation.

    Phase-II of FAME India Scheme will be implemented for a period of 3 years, starting April 1, 2019. The total budget for the scheme is Rs 10,000 crore. 

    The second phase of the scheme focuses on supporting the electrification of public & shared transportation. The scheme also aims at supporting through subsidies-- 7000 e-Buses, 5 lakh e-3 Wheelers, 55000 e-4 Wheeler Passenger Cars and 10 lakh e-2 Wheelers. 

    FAME India Scheme Phase I

    In the Phase-I of FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of (Hybrid &) Electric Vehicles) India Scheme till 31st March 2019, around  2,80,987 hybrid and electric vehicles were supported by way of demand incentive, amounting to about Rs 359 crore. The Department of Heavy Industries (DHI) sanctioned around 425 electric and hybrid buses to various cities in India, costing around Rs 280 crores. The Ministry has also sanctioned 520 Charging Stations for Rs 43 Crore under the first phase of the scheme in various cities.
