    Jharkhand: State Horticulture Mission

    Jharkhand State Horticulture Mission has been commenced as a Centrally Sponsored proposal to endorse holistic augmentation of the horticulture segment during an area based regionally distinguished tactics.

    For accomplishment of National Horticulture Mission programmes in the state, a Society Jharkhand State Horticulture Mission Society (JSHM) has been scheduled under Society Registration Act by the Department of Agriculture and Cane Development Jharkhand.

     

    The National Horticulture Mission in Jharkhand was initiated in the late 2005 - 06 originally in 10 districts (Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Latehar, Chatra, Saraikela, Logardaga, Palamau, Deoghar, East Singhbhum, Dumka) with major ompetus on fabrication of planting materials, establishment of novel gardens, vegetable seed production, conception of water resources etc. Institution of new gardens comprises of recurrent and non recurrent fruits, floriculture, spices, medicinal and aromatic plants.

     

    This scheme was hundred percent supported by the Central Government during 2005 - 06 and 2006 - 07. On the other hand, during 2007 - 08 and onwards this proposal has been executed in 15 districts (Hazaribagh, Ranchi, Chatra, Logardaga, Latehar, Saraikela, East Singhbhum, Palamau, Pakur, Deoghar, Jamtara, Dumka, Simdega, Gumla, West Singhbhum) with the blueprint of aid as 85:15 by the Central Government and State Government correspondingly. Currently two novel districts Ramgarh and Khunti engraved out from Hazaribagh and Ranchi respectively has been incorporated under National Horticulture Mission programme.

     

    The entire state has been alienated into 3 zones viz. North Eastern and Central plateau and South Eastern plateau. Horticultural crops have been implemented under NHM as per their area appropriateness.

    (Warmer climate, High rainfall)

    Jamtara, Deoghar, Dumka, Sahebganj, Godda, Pakur

    Jackfruit, Mango, tamarind, chiraunji, custard apple

    Cooler climate (altitude>2000ft.)

    Hills of Gumla and Lohardaga

    Gherkins, Broccoli, cabbage, off-season, cauliflower, capsicum, chili, peas,  beans, tomato, root crops, carrot, beet root,cucurbits and baby corn.

    Peach, Pear, loquat, low chilling apple.
