India is one of the largest consumers of gold in the world. India gets its gold from Kolar Gold Fields, Lava Gold Mines in Jharkhand, Sonbhadra Mines in UP, Parasi mines in Jharkhand etc.

The largest gold ore reserves are found in Bihar (almost 44 per cent), followed by Rajasthan (25 per cent). Then comes Karnataka (21 per cent), West Bengal (3 per cent), Andhra Pradesh (3 per cent) and Jharkhand (2 per cent). The remaining reserves are found in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu.

It has been stated by many international and national media houses as well that the Indian temples carry as much gold as the entire world in itself. Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala has enormous quantities of gold worth billions of dollars.

These were discovered in the 16th century and has been kept by the Government of India now. the World Gold Council had estimated Indian temples to hold about 22000 tonnes of gold with 1 trillion dollars worth of gold held in the temple of Kerala itself.
