Maldives to become first Zero-carbon nation

In an unique step, Maldives has decided to give up fossil fuels completely and switch to renewable energy to become first zero-carbon nation in theglobe.

Unique plan laid out

According to the plan, 155 large wind turbines, half-a-kilometre of solar roof panels and a biomass plant to extract oil from
coconut husk will be set up. Electricity will also be harnessed from ocean waves and switch to electric vehicles. Battery banks would be set up to offer backups when wind and solar energy are not available.

Why Maldives took this step?

The Maldives is a low lying island on the Indian Ocean and is most vulnerable to global warming. According to predictions,
it might inundate by the sea after some year. It is precisely because of this reason that Maldives took this step. The US $110 million would be spent every year for the next one decade to eliminate the fossil fuel.
