Biju Janata Dal president Naveen Patnaik became the Chief Minister of Orissa state for the third consecutive term. His party BJD won a resounding victory in the 2009 Vidhan Sabha elections, bagging 103 out of the 147 assembly seats. Patnaik was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Orissa in 2000 for the very first time.
