    Punjab, the name itself is derived from the Persian words Punj meaning five and ab meaning water, was a land of 5 rivers which formed part of Indus Basin till the year 1947.

    Punjab, the name itself is derived from the Persian words Punj meaning five and ab meaning water, was a land of 5 rivers which formed part of Indus Basin till the year 1947. After partition, the Indus water Treaty, 1960 constrained India’s rights of usage to only 3 Eastern rivers (Sutlej, Beas and Ravi), the 3 Western rivers (Indus, Jhelum and Chenab) were allocated for limited usage of Pakistan.
